English Democrats Launch London Mayor Website

At last the English Democrats are moving into action with the launch of the London Mayoral site in support of their candidate Matt O'Connor. Matt was elected has the new candidate for the the English Democrats when Gary Bushell stood down due to work committments.

Despite the media's reluctance to cover anything from the countries leading English Nationalist Party, I am confident Matt will be using all his media skills to create the publicity necessary to get this party started!

“Cherish the past, adorn the present, construct for the future.” Clough Williams-Ellis

He defied the Government & Judiciary. He fought for our children and created Fathers 4 Justice. Now he wants to create a New London: a city of hope, opportunity and unexplored horizons. Here Matt O’Connor sets out his blueprint for the city we call home.

Over recent years mainstream political credibility has been tarnished by consecutive waves of scandal and incompetence. Nobody can claim to have all the answers, but we urgently need to break the depressing paralysis which grips our political discourse. There is I believe, an antidote. A way of challenging the current political monopoly, of releasing our democracy from the current stranglehold in which it is held by the incumbents.

I believe in a new creed of politics, free of the ideological baggage inherited by the ‘old order’ over the last two centuries. Londoners require a new and dynamic ‘situationalist’ response as we respond to the changing face of politics and our changing needs.

The English Democrats are libertarian pioneers, Londoners charged with energy, conviction and commitment; agents for change united by a common bond - the innate emotional attachment we place on our capital’s shared heritage, language, identity, cultures and traditions - regardless of race, colour or creed.

I want to change the language of politics and reignite the crucible of our democracy. But most importantly I want to offer Londoners a choice. A choice between the politics of hope and the politics of hate. Between the politics of integration and the divisiveness of segregation. Between the politics of the future and the politics of the past. A new pathway for London that refashions our identity, fusing together elements of the past with a future-looking orientation to create a confident and respectful city we can be proud of.

Unlike any of the other parties that represent the old order, I want to restore the democratic deficit in the Union of the United Kingdom. To stop the flow of taxes from London to other parts of the UK including Scotland and Wales, so that London’s taxes are spent on London, not Edinburgh. Five of the ten most deprived local authorities in the UK are in London and they urgently need economic support.

If we are to change the face of our city, we will also need to tackle the social disease of family breakdown. We are creating a dysfunctional city, a city of children without fathers, of dismembered families where last year the streets of London were stained with the blood of 27 teenagers, killed in a violent harvest of bullets and blades. Where 1 in 3 teenagers carries a blade, where gang crime is running out of control and where we have the highest rate of young offending in Western Europe, the highest rate of teenage pregnancies in Europe and an abortion epidemic.

Our elected politicians have failed in their duty of care to protect the public and to tackle the breakdown of large parts of our capital city. By promoting family and community cohesion, radical family law reform and unlocking the potential of young people in our communities, we can begin to stem the catastrophic social effects of family breakdown.

On May 1st you will have an opportunity to choose a Mayor who will earn, not win your support. A Mayor that will lead by example when it comes to championing democracy. That means standing for one term only and proposing reforms to devolve more of the Mayor’s powers to the Greater London Assembly rather than railroading an ideological agenda through on the two-thirds majority rule. This will ensure that Londoner’s have a greater say in where their taxes are spent.

Together with you, I am committed to repairing our broken city, rebuilding fractured families and establishing strong, prosperous communities. I hope you will work with me in creating our New London - a city of opportunity, hope and unexplored horizons.

A London you can believe in.

No Mention of England Again!

PM criticised over reshuffle- No mention of England....Again?

Reading the news stories from today it concerns me that the government of this country, specifically Gordon Brown and his Scottish Raj, fail again to mention England in their references. In speech after speech he mentions Britain and the regions of our country and yet he fails to mention the policies he promotes predominately only affect the people of England. This is a Prime Minister who has no mandate in England, he was elected in a Scottish constituency.

In reference to the story highlighted below, we have a Welsh minister looking after Welsh issues, nothing wrong with that, we have a Scot Mr Des Browne looking after Britain's defence and Scotland part-time, which is of great concern to our parliamentarians. There is mention of the British-Irish Council which is now the responsibility of the Welsh Minister.....the very said council that has no-one representing the interests of England.

I would suggest our 'English' English members of parliament reflect on the compromised position we English find ourselves in...We have been well and truly stuffed!

What we need is an English First Minister with a functioning English parliament, all we ask as English Nationalists is a fair deal for ALL the people of England, nothing more, nothing less.

Gordon Brown has defended his decision to reinstate a full time Wales secretary.

Brown was speaking during prime minister's questions on Wednesday amid criticism that Des Browne is not spending enough time on his defence-related duties.
Conservative MP Ben Wallis said it was unfair that last week's mini-cabinet reshuffle saw Paul Murphy become full time Wales secretary, while Browne maintains the briefs for both defence and Scotland.
On Tuesday, a Times analysis of Browne's diary found that he was spending between 10 and 15 per cent of his time on matters that have no relation to his duties as defence secretary.
And the Opposition argues that it is unacceptable for Browne to divide his time between the two roles.
"Why is it that the people of Wales get a full time secretary of state, yet our Armed Forces and the Scots have to make do with a part-timer?" said Wallis.
But Brown insisted that Murphy "has additional responsibilities to those of Wales".
"He is overseeing the British-Irish council, he is responsible for the joint ministerial committees on devolution, he is the minister responsible for digital inclusion, he is responsible for data security and information assurance and these are in addition to his responsibilities as secretary for Wales," the prime minister told MPs.

An Open Letter to the Hansard Society of Britain.

Dear Sir

“Is the West Lothian Question unanswerable?” event House of Lords on 6th February 2008

In a House of Commons Library note, the West Lothian Question is described as “the constitutional anomaly by which Members representing Scottish constituencies (and on occasion from Welsh and Northern Irish seats) may vote on legislation which extends to England, but neither they nor Members representing English seats can vote on subjects which have been devolved to the Scottish Parliament.”

[See http://www.parliament.uk/commons/lib/research/notes/snpc-02586.pdf ]
Therefore, by any objective yardstick it is an anomaly, an inequity predominantly, if not wholly, affecting England and the English. Indeed, this aberration could more succinctly and impartially be stated as: “the constitutional anomaly by which all Members of the House of Commons may vote on legislation affecting England, but none of them can vote on subjects which have been devolved elsewhere.” thus focussing attention on its effects. Accordingly, the question would more appropriately be described as ‘The England Question’ which recognises that it is England which is adversely affected, not West Lothian!
It is common knowledge that the population of England, being more than fifty million, is ten times greater than that of Scotland and amounts to some 84% of the UK’s population. The other 16% have three parliaments between them, whilst England has none! Moreover, whilst the Hansard Society has a ‘Hansard Society Scotland’, in common with many other organisations based in England it has no ‘Hansard Society England’. It so happens that Hansard’s current President is a Scot, and its Vice Presidents include Gordon Brown and David Cameron.
Under ‘What we do’ on Hansard’s website, it is recorded: “We aim to strengthen parliamentary democracy and encourage greater public involvement in politics. At the heart of our work is the principle that civic society is most effective when its citizens are connected with the institutions and individuals who represent them in the democratic process.”
Against the circumstances described above, one might have imagined that, out of a sense of fairness and appropriateness (if nothing else), the Hansard Society would have arranged the event with English speakers on the platform and an English chairman. However, had one imagined that, one would have been very mistaken!
Upon querying this bizarre arrangement (which seems least likely to ‘encourage greater English involvement in politics’), I was informed by your Communications Manager that Lord Falconer and Sir Malcolm Rifkind were chosen because of their parliamentary expertise. (Of course, this does not explain why yet another Scot, Sheena McDonald, is to chair the event!) Even so, I do not accept that, out of a British Parliament comprising 645 MPs and 738 Lords, it is not possible to find two English parliamentarians with comparable if not greater expertise and continuous experience! Indeed, I could nominate two such English parliamentarians myself!
Whilst Sir Malcolm is a Conservative Unionist who rejects the option of an English Parliament, being content to tinker with existing parliamentary arrangements, Lord Falconer is on record as actually rejecting calls for an English Parliament.

The narrowness of the Society’s choice of speaker is further demonstrated by the fact of them both being Scottish barristers. No accountant, physician, scientist nor director to be found here then!
Therefore, this Hansard Society event, far from being open to all options is not only skewed but restricted in its approach to the relevant issue. It seems bent on merely giving representatives of the current political establishment another platform.
As it stands, the event would be better staged in Scotland! As I wrote to your Miss Booth, I doubt whether the Hansard Society Scotland would ever dare to arrange a debate at 20 Forth Street, Edinburgh with the question "Is the England Question unanswerable?" and with solely English parliamentarians on the platform!
As it stands, this event typifies discriminatory arrangements whereby the English are persistently marginalised in their own country. One only has to look at how the BBC consistently records its 'Any Questions?' and 'Question Time' programmes in Scotland, with panels invariably packed out with Scots and, occasionally, a non-English person such as Yasmin Alibhai Brown! There seems to be a tacit acceptance that Scottish audiences will not tolerate opinions being expressed by the English. Compare that with recordings of these programmes made in England, where eclectic panels comprise a variety of ethnicities and almost invariably a Scot! This week’s ‘Any Questions?’ recorded in Bristol serves to illustrate the situation in which the Scot, John McFall MP, Chairman of the Commons Treasury Select Committee is a member of the panel. Mr McFall has been prominent in recent months as have his compatriots, Gordon Brown, Alistair Darling and Sir Callum McCarthy, Chairman of the Financial Services Authority in the matter of Northern Rock.
Other groups and communities in Britain are held to need role models, to be represented, but apparently not the English. The essence of democracy is that in general the majority prevails. In England, this has been turned on its head and so called ‘minorities’ prevail. The practice of discriminating against the English in England is so widespread and commonplace now that it is taken as a matter of fact. Consequently, the Hansard Society has made its arrangements on this occasion in the clear expectation that its ‘institutionalised racism’ against England and the English will not attract critical comment; this is evidenced by the feeble attempt to justify the arrangements.
A double standard prevails in UK affairs today in which, on the one hand, any question affecting Scotland must be “for Scots themselves to decide” and the 84% of voters in England are relegated to being passive observers despite the fact that England is affected and, on the other hand, any consideration of similar matters affecting England is subject to wholesale interference by Scots who, if they do not monopolise, predominate in discussions about possible solutions. I have heard quite a number of broadcast discussions about The England Question in which Scots outnumber the single Englishman present (despite the English being ten times more numerous) and other such discussions which were entirely between Scots including the ubiquitous Scottish presenter! I have yet to hear a single broadcast discussion about The England Question in which the English have had even parity of representation!
With its event on 6th February, the Hansard Society is presenting itself with the appearance of having an astonishing lack of sensitivity and political nous at best and ingrained anti-Englishness at worst. The Society’s boast of being “the UK's leading independent, non-partisan, political research and education charity” is called into question and will be seen by many Englishmen as being counterfeit!
I am no less proud of being English than Charles Falconer and Malcolm Rifkind are of being Scottish, as I am entitled to be! Please be in no doubt that I object to the way in which this event has been arranged and that I do not regard the Hansard Society as being non-partisan, but as yet another British institution hostile to the fact of England being a nation in its own right and being properly treated as such.
Yours faithfully
A GODWIN

Hansard Debate

Although I welcome such a debate the Hansard Society has invited three Scots To discuss the West Lothian Question.........nothing new here then!

The original question was posed by Labour MP Tam Dalyell, whose constituency used to be called West Lothian.

He asked how it could be right that a Scottish MP at Westminster after devolution could vote upon matters such as education affecting English seats - but that same MP could not vote on such matters affecting his own constituency because they would have been devolved to a Scottish Parliament.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/talking_politics/82358.stm

The meeting will be held on 6.2.2008 at 6.30 pm to 7.45 pm in the House of Lords where the speakers will be the europhile Sir Malcolm Rifkind MP (Foreign Secretary in the disastrous pro-EU Government of Major) and the committed europhile Lord Falconer (the Labour politician) who is totally opposed to England having her own Parliament (even though he spent years campaigning for his nation of Scotland to have one). Adding to the Scottish presence will be Sheena McDonald who will act as Chairman of the meeting.

Register for the event and make your voice heard....England Expects

Englands National Party the English Democrats are holding a meeting in Windsor on February 23rd. The event is being staged under the heading of 'Now is the Time' and is to help launch the London Mayoral campaign. The event also incorporates training for the party candidates standing in the May local elections. Christine Constable will announce progress on the 'England Programme', and the 'Young English Democrats' will be giving a progress report. Matt O'Connor will address the meeting along with Robin Tilbrook outlining the party objectives for the year.
In the Evening a fund raising 'Champagne Dinner' will be hosted at Eton College.

Standing for London not Edinburgh

The English Democrat Mayoral campaign is in the final days of planning and I am expecting a few fireworks. Work commitments that have forced Gary Bushell to stand down however it certainly exciting to see Father 4 Justice supremo take up the challenge.

Standing for London, not Edinburgh. Said O'Connor today, "I'm alarmed by the state of our political discourse and a democracy that is failing Londoners on such a spectacular scale. I'm standing for London and that means we have to review the amount of taxes that flow from London to other parts of the UK including Scotland, so that our taxes are invested in London, not Edinburgh. http://images.newsquest.co.uk/image....8882&type=full"We must also place families and communities at the heart of our agenda. 27 teenagers died last year in a violent harvest of bullets and blades on the bloodstained streets of our capital city and the role of fathers is absolutely integral to solving this problem. London is in breakdown - family and community breakdown - and I believe that as an agent for change, I can restore and repair our broken city." "With regard to spending, the Mayor is profligate and has morphed into a great bloated newt jealously guarding his gold hoard. For motorists he is the Highwayman from Hell and for taxpayers he is 'Cashpoint Ken' the man who is milking London dry." Matt O'Connor is the English Democrats London Mayoral Candidate -May 2008

England In My Heart Conference

The 'England In my Heart'conference held in Leicester was a fantastic success and I would like to thank all those that attended and contributed. How good was it to see and meet like minded people who genuinely cared passionately for their country....its all coming together!

The conference followed a very succesful English Democrat AGM with motions discussed ranging from Political Correctness to Independence. Following the opening introduction from Robin Tilbrook there were notable speeches by Steve Wyatt and Ed Abrams, worth seeing when they are posted on 18 Doughty Street; and although the party voted to retain the existing policy of campaigning for an English Parliament within a Federal UK, I am confident the campaign for an Independent England will continue to gain momentum amongst the nationalist community. There were excellent, well informed policy speeches from Michael Cassidy, Fred Bishop and David Ball, and Andrew Constantine delivered a commandful Treasurers report that made me realise what quality and expertise we have within the party.

On several occasions I was brought to tears, not through sadness but through the shared pride, passion and fury felt by fellow patriots in the room. Christine Constable announced the exciting developments being delivered through key English Institutions, I will post more on these initiatives next week. Robin Tilbrook was presented with an historic English sword recovered from America to celebrate the first 5 years of the party. The presentation speech by Christine Constable was emotional to say the least, a real tear jerker from the heart, when her bottom lip went...well the flood gates opened; unfortunately before I could recover any composure at all we were into Englands National Anthem 'Jerusalem', well the sight of Dave Knight balling his eyes out on the front row was all a bit much....mind you how good did it sound!

In the afternoon speeches then came from Ed Abrams representing Justice for England and the May 1st J4E march in London when a 20,000 name petition was handed into Downing Street demanding an English Parliament, William Cobbett and Jane Phillips on the aims of Steadfast, and what an excellent contribution Angus McNeil from the SNP made. Now those in the know will tell you that I have an irrational hatred for anything 'celtic' but this guy is very impressive, I can confidently predict that Angus will be very influential within the SNP over the forthcoming years, he is a real * in the making.

To complete the first day we had Mark Wallace speaking on behalf of both the 'Better off Out' campaign and the 'Pro-Referendum Rally' and for one so young his confident, flawless delivery and informative speech was a credit to the organisations he represented.

Awards Dinner and Day 2 to follow soon.
